Cookie

What this page covers

A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to keep, so that something can be remembered between pages or visits. This page lists every cookie HapnGo (https://hapngo.org) actually sets, and every third-party cookie that can appear here.

Cookies this site sets

NamePurposeTypeLifetime
hg_langRemembers the interface language you chose, so you are not switched back to English on the next page. It is set only when you pick a language from the language switcher.Functional1 year
Admin sessionKeeps the operator signed in to the admin area. It is never set for visitors.Strictly necessarySession

Neither of these tracks you, profiles you, or follows you to other sites.

Web fonts

The fonts used on this site are self-hosted. No request goes to Google Fonts, so no cookie or IP address reaches Google that way.

Third-party cookies

The three services below are the only ones that can place cookies here. Two of them are switched off unless and until they are enabled; the third runs only if you ask for it.

Google AdSense — only if and when advertising is enabled

If advertising is switched on, Google AdSense sets its own cookies to serve and measure ads. Ads are always labelled "Advertisement" so you can tell them from editorial content.

Google Analytics 4 — only if and when analytics is enabled

If analytics is switched on, Google Analytics 4 sets cookies to count visits and see which pages are read. It is configured with IP anonymisation, so full IP addresses are not stored.

Google Translate — only when you ask for it

The site's interface is translated into seven languages without any third party. Google Translate is loaded only when you click "More languages (auto-translate)". From that click onwards, Google sets its own cookies in your browser. If you never click it, Google Translate never loads.

Consent

While only the functional cookies listed above are in use, no consent banner is shown — a banner asking permission for a language preference would be noise, and the law does not require one for cookies that are strictly necessary or purely functional.

If advertising or analytics cookies are switched on, consent will be requested first, before any such cookie is set, and you will be able to refuse or withdraw it as easily as you gave it. This page will be updated at the same time.

Transfers outside the EU

The site and its data are hosted in the European Union. The only route by which data leaves the EU is Google: AdSense or Analytics if they are enabled, and Google Translate if you click to use it. Those transfers happen under Google's own terms and safeguards.

Controlling cookies yourself

You can delete or block cookies in your browser settings, and you can browse in a private window so that everything is cleared when you close it. Blocking the hg_lang cookie costs you nothing except that the site will show English until you pick a language again on each visit.

Browser help pages: look for "Cookies and site data" in Chrome, "Cookies and Site Data" in Firefox, "Privacy and security" in Edge, or "Privacy" in Safari.

Server logs are not cookies

Separately from cookies, the hosting provider keeps standard server access logs — IP address, browser user agent, timestamp and requested URL — for security, typically for up to 30 days. This is described in the Privacy Policy.
