Nvidia open-sources Flora to make robot video labeling 125x cheaper than GPT-6 Astra

AI summary Nvidia has released Flora, an open data engine that annotates robot training videos using three fine-tuned Qwen3.5 models, now published on Hugging Face. The company estimates that labeling an hour of footage costs about 72 cents, compared with roughly $88.50 for GPT-6 Astra, though these are projections based on an assumed $10 per GPU-hour. Nvidia says Flora already processes as many as 200,000 video hours per day using 512 GB300 GPUs for GR00T training. In tests, Flora-Rewarder detected 53.3% of unsuccessful steps inside episodes while Astra caught none, but Astra still did better on some description benchmarks.

Nikon photography contest winner loses title after scientists spot signs of AI

AI summary Nikon withdrew first prize in its 16th Small World in Motion microscopy video contest from Ning Xu of Tsinghua University after its investigation found he had broken the rules. Researchers had flagged odd cell shapes and structures appearing and vanishing in his clip of cilia from a young patient with primary ciliary dyskinesia, and PhD student Ian Donovan reported an apparent AI watermark in the source image. Xu said AI was used only in post-processing, not to create the footage. The award now goes to Nguyen Nam Nhat of Vietnam, and Nikon plans to review its rules and judging procedures.

OpenAI offers discounts up to 90 percent to poach Anthropic's biggest customers

AI summary OpenAI is winning business from Anthropic through steep price cuts, with Rippling, Replit and DataCamp moving more of their AI budgets to it. According to Rippling's chief executive Parker Conrad, OpenAI now handles 52% of the firm's coding work, up from 16%, while Anthropic's portion dropped from 57% to 18%. Replit switched after receiving more than 30% off a contract worth above $100 million per year, and DataCamp's Jonathan Cornelissen reported cost savings of 80 to 90%. An investor memo indicates Anthropic's growth slowed between the second and third quarters.
